COURSE 1D – Last Planner System® in Design

Last Planner System® - Pull Planning

Whether you’re an experienced user or new to the system, learn to use or perfect this revolutionary planning and scheduling method which raises schedule predictability of design and construction teams from the industry average of 54% to over 80%-90%. Used by most of the most effective, successful construction companies in the ENR 100, an increasing number of designer and design-builders, and hundreds of small to medium companies throughout the country and the world. For Architects, Engineers, Design-Builders, Design-Assist Trade Contractors and Owners.

What you'll learn

What you'll learn

The differences between utilizing the Last Planner System® in design vs. construction; and how LPS® has evolved to become invaluable in coordinating the work of collaborative design teams.

How to “pull plan” backwards from Design Milestones and Deliverables to flush out all the design elements, constraints and information sequences needed to foster a creative flow in design.

How to plan your design in short-loop stages, measure reliability of commitments and integrate with Agile and Scrum practices.

Why Small Batching and “first, do work that releases other work” are keys to smoother design flow.

Lessons learned from five case histories of Last Planner® in Design – successes and failures.

Description

Description

Sparked by an increase in the use of design-build and Integrated Project Delivery over the last decade, architects and engineers saw the successes of the Last Planner System® in construction and began experimenting with these “pull” principles in planning and managing design. But we’ve found it works well with any project delivery method, even design-bid-build.

This Course takes you on a journey through the “early days”, to understand the missteps, the success and failures and how they led to today’s world of successful lean design teams using Last Planner®.

Because design is inspiration-based and designers themselves are often accustomed to working in a less-predictable cluster of processes and personalities, many have come to expect the work of design to be fraught with starts and stumbles and late nights and last-minute rework. Using design-adapted Last Planner® opens an entire new world of cross-discipline understanding and communication. “In order to give you this, I will need that,” becomes the transaction that allows information and calculation to flow at the right time, when inspiration most needs it.

NOTE: Although this Course can stand alone and bring great value, it is strongly encouraged that it be purchased with Course 1A – Foundations, for maximum value.
